Delta Bathroom Remodeling: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If you own a Delta-fitted bathroom in Ventura and a fitting, valve, or fixture has failed, the typical installed repair or replacement runs $9,000 – $28,000 depending on scope, and we can usually schedule the swap within days, not weeks. Most Ventura homeowners discover the problem in the middle of a morning routine: a Delta shower valve that won’t hold temperature, a widespread faucet dripping behind the escutcheon, or a tub spout diverter that sends half the water toward the shower head while the other half floods the tub. The good news is that Delta’s parts are widely available, and we stock the most common Delta cartridges, seats, springs, and trim kits on our service trucks so a repair does not have to wait on a parts order.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta manufactures a wide range of bathroom faucets, shower valves, tub/shower trims, and accessories, and the compatibility question comes down to which era and line your fixture belongs to. The most common Delta lines we see in Ventura homes are the Monitor 13/14 series (the classic pressure-balanced tub/shower valve), the Monitor 17 series (with separate volume and temperature handles), the R4700 series (MultiChoice universal valve bodies), and the newer TempAssure thermostatic valves. There is also a small but dedicated group of Ventura homes still running Delta Delex and Delta 600 series fixtures from the 1980s and 1990s, which use a ball-style cartridge that is both recognizable and prone to mineral buildup from our hard local water.
The most reliable way to identify what you have is to remove the trim plate and look for the model number stamped on the valve body or the cartridge itself. If you don’t want to touch the plate, we can identify it from a photo, and we usually ask for one before the first visit so the right part is on the truck. One compatibility gotcha worth noting: Delta’s newer MultiChoice rough-in valves can be cross-fitted with either the 13/14 or 17 series trims, but the cartridges are NOT interchangeable in the other direction. If you have a 1990s Monitor valve, the newer TempAssure thermostatic cartridge will not fit, no matter how much it looks like it should.
For OEM vs aftermarket: we install genuine Delta cartridges and seals for any repair. The cost difference is small, usually no more than $10 – $30 per cartridge, and the failure rate on aftermarket Delta-style cartridges we have pulled from other contractors’ work is noticeably higher. For trim kits and finishing pieces, we have installed quality aftermarket options from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone where the homeowner wanted a different finish or a lower price point, and those products carry their own manufacturer warranties we can verify by name.

Signs Your Delta Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Shower temperature swings while the tub is otherwise fine. This almost always points to a failing pressure-balancing spool or a worn-out cartridge inside the Delta valve. The part is trying to maintain temperature, but the internal seals have worn enough that cold water is overriding the hot side without warning.
- Water drips from the tub spout long after the diverter is closed. The diverter gate inside the spout has warped or cracked. On older Delta tub spouts with the brass insert, the gate often corrodes first, even when the fixture still looks fine from the outside.
- The faucet handle turns freely but no water flows. This is typically a stripped cartridge stem or a broken stop tab inside the handle assembly. Delta stems are brass, but the plastic stop part inside the handle is the weaker link and is the first thing to shear off under repeated torque.
- Low water pressure at one fixture only. On Delta faucets, the aerator is the usual suspect, but if the aerator is clean and the pressure is still low, the cartridge inlet seals have swelled or become clogged with debris. We see this in Ventura more than most places because the municipal water in our area carries enough minerals that inlet screens gum up faster than in softer-water regions.
- Water leaking from behind the trim plate. This is never a trim problem. It is a valve-body or cartridge O-ring failure, and it means water is running against the inside of the wall cavity. Get this one addressed promptly. Drywall and studs in a Ventura ocean-side climate do not forgive moisture the way a desert climate will.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, a complete bathroom remodel with Delta fixtures lands between $9,000 and $28,000, and a smaller job like a single Delta valve replacement or a tub-to-shower conversion falls between $3,000 and $10,000. The spread comes down to three things: whether we are repairing a valve in place or opening the wall to replace the rough-in, whether you are updating trim only or changing the full fixture layout, and what the tile and waterproofing scope looks like around the valve. We do not hide parts and labor in separate piles. The written price shows the Delta cartridge or trim kit line by line, labor as a separate line, and any tile or backer work the job requires. Every Delta repair we install comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right, we make it right. Every project also includes shoe covers and drop cloths before the first tool opens, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves, so there is no question about the condition of the floor.
DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner with a Phillips screwdriver and patience can clean a Delta aerator, replace a tub spout diverter (the thread-on kind), or swap a handle assembly. Those are safe, accessible repairs with almost no risk of property damage. Where DIY goes wrong is valve cartridges, shower valves, and anything behind the trim plate. Delta cartridge replacements sometimes require more pull force than people expect, and the brass retaining ring or the plastic stop tab can shear off inside the valve body. That turns a $45 cartridge swap into a failed rough-in that now requires wall access. On the water supply side, a Delta valve that has been cross-threaded at install can crack the outer casing when a well-meaning homeowner torques the retaining nut too hard. If water is involved and you are not 100% certain of the exact model inside the wall, call us at (341) 218-4316. We will identify the part from a photo, bring the correct Delta cartridge to your home, and do the swap without a surprise wall opening.
FAQs

In our experience with Ventura’s water chemistry, a Delta cartridge lasts 7 to 12 years before seals begin to fail, though we have pulled cartridges that lasted 20 years in homes with a whole-house water softener. Hard water is the main accelerator, and Ventura’s municipal supply is hard enough that cartridges here wear out faster than they do in cities with softer mountain water.
Yes, and most Delta failures are repairable with a cartridge, seats, springs, or a trim kit, which is exactly what we try first. A fixture only calls for full replacement when the valve body itself is cracked or the fixture is so old that parts are no longer produced, which applies mainly to Delta Delex and pre-1990s models. Call (341) 218-4316 with a photo of your fixture and we will tell you which path applies.
Most Delta cartridge and trim swaps take 1 to 2 hours from the time the water goes off at the shutoff to the moment we turn it back on and test the temperature. If the rough-in valve must be replaced, that job usually runs a full day because it involves opening the wall, removing tile or backer, and waterproofing the opening before the new valve goes in.
Yes. We keep common Delta Monitor 13/14 and 17 series cartridges, seats, springs, and a selection of trim kits in our service vehicles, along with Delta repair kits for the older 600 series. For less common Delta lines, we order the part same-day from a Ventura supplier and usually have it by the next morning. Call the office at (341) 218-4316 and our live person will confirm what is on the truck before we arrive.
We are an independent remodeling contractor and are not affiliated with Delta Faucet Company. Every Delta part we install is either genuine Delta or a named-brand alternative you can research and verify.
