CertainTeed Roofing: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If you have a CertainTeed roof in Ventura and a section is failing, we can source and install the matching CertainTeed components, typically at $400 to $1,800 for repairs and $8,000 to $20,000 for a full replacement. Most Ventura homeowners discover the problem after a winter windstorm loosens shingles near the eaves, or when a ceiling stain appears weeks after a quiet leak settled into the decking. The smell of damp plywood in the attic is another common first sign, and by then the underlayment has usually been soaked through. We carry CertainTeed shingles and flashing on the truck for common repairs, and we can order any series-matched component within a few business days.
We are an independent Ventura contractor, not a CertainTeed dealer or affiliate. That means we can match your existing roof without pushing a brand switch, and we’ll tell you plainly if an aftermarket flashing does the job as well as the OEM part for less money.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed makes several roofing lines, and the part you need depends entirely on which one was installed. The Landmark series is the most common in Ventura neighborhoods, from the Midtown district to the hills above Foothill Road. Landmark shingles come in two weights: the standard Landmark and the heavier Landmark Pro, which has a thicker granule layer and a slightly wider exposure. The Presidential Shake line uses a different nail strip placement, so a Presidential shingle will not sit correctly on a roof built for Landmark. If you have a flat or low-slope section, the Flintlastic SA self-adhered membrane is its own system and needs matching SA-compatible flashing, not standard shingle flashing.
To identify what you have, check the bundle wrapper in the garage or attic. CertainTeed prints the series name and color code on every bundle. If the wrappers are gone, a single shingle can be matched by measuring the exposure and checking the back for the manufacturing code stamped into the mat. We do this match on site before quoting, because guessing here is how you end up with a patch that fades differently and shows for years.
When it comes to parts, CertainTeed’s own starter strips, ridge caps, and hip shingles are engineered to their specific shingle geometry. Aftermarket versions from GAF or Owens Corning will physically install, but the color match will not be exact, and the seal strip placement differs slightly. For anything visible, we recommend the CertainTeed OEM part. For hidden components like synthetic underlayment or drip edge, a quality aftermarket equivalent is often just as good and costs less.

Signs Your CertainTeed Roofing Is Failing
- Granules collecting in gutters or at downspout elbows. CertainTeed shingles shed granules as the asphalt layer weathers. In Ventura’s salt air and summer UV, a roof over 15 years old will show this. It means the shingle’s protective layer is thinning and the asphalt below is beginning to oxidize.
- Curling or cupping shingle edges. This is almost always a ventilation problem, not a shingle defect. When the attic can’t breathe, heat and moisture push up through the decking and warp the shingles from below. We see this constantly in older Ventura homes without ridge vents.
- Missing or cracked shingles after wind. CertainTeed shingles carry a wind warranty, but the seal strip can release after years of thermal cycling. Once one shingle lifts, the ones below it catch wind and tear. A section with three or more missing shingles needs attention before the next Santa Ana event.
- Water staining on ceilings or walls. The leak has usually been active for weeks by the time it shows. Water travels along rafters and drips far from the actual penetration point. The source is often a failed pipe boot or step flashing, not the shingle field itself.
- Sagging or soft spots felt underfoot. This is decking rot, the most expensive outcome. It means water has been sitting against the plywood for months. The fix involves replacing the decking section, not just the shingles over it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Ventura, a CertainTeed roof repair runs $400 to $1,800 depending on what failed and how much of the system needs attention. A full CertainTeed roof replacement runs $8,000 to $20,000 for a typical single-family home, with the range driven by roof size, pitch, tear-off layers, and whether the decking below needs replacement.
Every quote includes the CertainTeed or matched-aftermarket parts, the labor, the removal and haul-off of old material, and a written cleanup protocol. We put the number in writing before any work starts, and the number does not change unless we find hidden decking rot and we show you the rotted plywood before we replace it. Our roofing work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something is not right after we leave, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: granules in the gutter, visible missing shingles from ground level, and an attic inspection with a flashlight after a heavy rain. Those observations help you call us with useful information. What we do not recommend is walking the roof. A steep Ventura hillside roof with morning dew or loose granules is a fall hazard, and the damage from a slip costs far more than a repair call.
Replacing shingles, flashing, or boot collars yourself will almost always void the CertainTeed warranty. The manufacturer’s coverage depends on installation to their published specs, including nailing pattern and seal strip handling. If you have a leak, call us at (341) 218-4316. We will match your CertainTeed series, write the price down, and handle the roof work while you stay safely on the ground.
FAQs

CertainTeed Landmark shingles typically last 20 to 30 years in Ventura’s coastal climate, though salt air exposure near the beach can shorten that to 18 to 25 years on west-facing slopes. The underlayment and flashing often fail before the shingles do. Call (341) 218-4316 and we can inspect your roof to give you a realistic remaining lifespan.
Yes, as long as the shingle field is still sealing and the decking is sound. Isolated flashing failures, boot failures, and small shingle runs are repairable for $400 to $1,800. If the shingles themselves have lost their seal strip across large sections, patching stops being cost-effective. Call (341) 218-4316 for an honest assessment, not a pitch.
Most repairs are completed in one day, including the cleanup and the photo documentation we leave with you. A full replacement runs three to seven days depending on size and weather. We schedule around Ventura’s marine layer mornings so the crew is not working on a slick roof.
We stock common CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Ventura-friendly colors, plus the high-failure components like pipe boots, step flashing, and ridge caps. Less common series like Presidential or Flintlastic we order by match, which adds two to four business days. If you have a specific color code, call (341) 218-4316 and we will check the truck before you wait.
We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the interior side of our business, so if a roof leak stained a ceiling or wall, we can handle that repair as part of the same project.
