Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If your Tamko driveway or paver surface is cracking, sinking, or separating at the joints, we stock Tamko-compatible replacement materials and install them throughout Ventura at a typical installed cost of $7,000 to $18,000 for a full paver driveway, with spot repairs starting around $500. Most Ventura homeowners call us when they notice one edge of a paver has lifted after a rainy winter, or when a section near the street has settled enough that the garage door catches on the raised lip. We carry Tamko paver stones and edge restraints on our trucks, and Graham Stein will write the exact scope and price on paper before the first stone moves.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko pavers come in three product lines homeowners in Ventura most often have: the Heritage collection (tumbled edges, older installations from the early 2000s), the Regal collection (crisp edges, slightly larger format), and the Villa collection (a tumbled stone with more color variation). Each line locks together differently, and here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: you cannot mix a Heritage paver into a Regal field and expect the joints to hold. The chamfer depth and side geometry differ enough that the pavers won’t interlock cleanly, which is how a small repair turns into a wavy surface two years later.
To identify which line you have before calling us for a quote, look at the side of any existing paver. Heritage pavers show a rounded, worn edge with visible aggregate. Regal pavers are cleaner, with a slight bevel only on the top face. Villa pavers look the most like natural stone and are the softest of the three. If you have the original installer invoice or a leftover pallet, the product code starts with TP- followed by the line initial. We also keep a small reference set at our Ventura shop to match colors that have faded over time, because a paver laid ten years ago on California’s south-facing exposure will not match a brand-new one from the supplier, regardless of what the label says.
As for OEM versus aftermarket: for Tamko pavers specifically, we use OEM Tamko units whenever they are still being manufactured. The color batch differs, but the structural mold is identical. Aftermarket equivalents exist for the Villa line, but they’re often 2 to 3 millimeters thinner, which reads as a subtle dip at the repair seam. We’ll always quote both if an aftermarket option is viable, with the honest note of what the joint line will look like.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Edge pavers lifting or tipping near the curb or driveway apron. This usually means the edge restraint, a flexible plastic or metal strip buried under the border row, has cracked or pulled loose. When that restraint lets go, the outer stones start drifting outward under daily car turns.
- A single paver cracked in the middle, often across the wheel line. Pavers rarely fail from weight alone. A cracked center usually means the sand bedding underneath has washed out in one spot, leaving the paver unsupported from below. Every time a tire rolls over it, the unsupported stone flexes and eventually snaps.
- Sand washing out between the joints after heavy rain. Ventura’s winter rains don’t soak deep, but they hit hard during December and January storms. If you see tan joint sand collecting at the bottom of the driveway after a rain, the paver field is losing its locking material and the stones are starting to rub against each other directly, which causes chipping along the edges.
- A low spot or mushy section that squishes when you step on it. That’s a base failure, not a paver problem. The compacted gravel and sand under the pavers has settled or washed into a void, usually from a leaking irrigation line or a drainage issue. Adding more sand on top won’t fix it; the area needs to come up and get recompacted.
- White or gray residue that reappears after cleaning. This is efflorescence, common on concrete pavers, including Tamko’s product lines. It’s salts migrating up through the paver. It’s mostly cosmetic, but recurring, heavy efflorescence in one band usually points to standing water underneath the paver field, which will cause future settling if the water source isn’t addressed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Tamko-compatible paver driveway installation in Ventura runs $7,000 to $18,000, depending on square footage, the existing base condition, and whether we’re pulling up and reusing any of the current stones. A spot repair involving 10 to 30 pavers, recompacting a settled base section, and fresh joint sand typically runs $500 to $2,500. The range comes down to three things: how much of the old base material we can save, whether we need to rent a plate compactor for hard-to-reach sections, and how much the city asks access to the sidewalk approach to be matched. We write the price before work starts, and that written number is the number you pay. No change orders unless you ask us to expand the scope. The workmanship carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if joint sand washes out or a repaired section settles within that first year, we come back and make it right.
Parts and labor are on the same line item, so there’s no “we’ll get you a material quote separately” delay. We pull the pavers, assess the bedding, recompact where needed, reset the edge restraint, and install. For a full replacement, we also pull and reset the old base if it hasn’t been compacted properly. Around Ventura’s older neighborhoods near Midtown, that base inspection is often where we find the real problem, buried and invisible until the stones come up.
DIY or Call Us?
What an owner can safely check without touching a stone: where the water drains during rain, whether a downspout is pointing at the driveway’s edge, and whether the joint sand between pavers is thin or missing in spots. Those observations help us diagnose faster, and you don’t need to lift anything.
What goes wrong with lifting pavers on your own is almost never the stone itself. It’s the bedding sand layer, the base beneath it, and the edge restraint. When you pull a paver and shovel new sand under it without compacting the base first, the repair looks fine for about six weeks, then the paver settles again, a little lower than before. And if the problem is the edge restraint, no amount of paver-level work fixes it. You also need the right joint sand, a polymeric sand rated for concrete pavers in coastal climates, or the first Ventura rain washes it straight out. If you’re at the “which paver do I even have” stage, call us at (341) 218-4316. Graham will walk the line with you, identify the product, and give you a written price before any stone comes up.
FAQs

A properly installed Tamko paver driveway in Ventura lasts 25 to 40 years before the base needs attention, though the joint sand needs replenishing every 3 to 5 years. Our marine-influenced climate is gentle on pavers compared to freeze-thaw regions; what shortens their life here is water, mostly from downspouts and irrigation, rather than temperature swings. Call (341) 218-4316 if you’re seeing joint sand washing out, and we’ll assess the drainage before it costs you base work.
A single cracked paver can absolutely be pulled and replaced without redoing the whole driveway, provided the bedding underneath is still sound and we can match the product line. In most cases, we’ll replace the cracked unit, recompact that section, and re-sand the joints the same day. If the paver cracked because the base settled, we’ll show you that on-site and price the base repair separately before touching anything.
A spot repair of 10 to 30 pavers in Ventura is usually a one-day job, start to finish. The slowest part isn’t the pavers, it’s the compaction, which needs a plate compactor and time between passes to settle properly. We’ll tell you the quiet hours in your neighborhood on the written scope so you know exactly when the machine will be running.
We stock the most commonly used Tamko products across the Heritage, Regal, and Villa lines at our Ventura shop, and we’ll bring matching samples to your house before the work date so you can see the color with your own eyes. Like our other named-brand material partners, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, the Tamko product warranty stays with the product through the manufacturer, while our labor carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll bring the reference set to your driveway.
