CWS Roofing: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If you have a CWS roof and a part of it has failed, the short answer is this: we stock and install CWS-compatible roofing components in Ventura, and most replacement jobs run $400 – $1,800 for a roof repair or $8,000 – $20,000 for a full replacement, depending on what failed and how far the damage spread. We can typically match the exact component to your CWS system, and in many cases the repair is done same week, not same month. Most Ventura homeowners discover a failing part two ways: a water stain on the ceiling after a winter rain, or a missing shingle they spot from the driveway the morning after a Santa Ana wind event. By then, the part has usually been quietly failing for months.
We’re an independent Ventura contractor, not affiliated with CWS. That means we give you straight answers about what to replace, what can wait, and what the real price is before any work begins.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS roofs in Ventura fall into a few broad categories, and the part you need depends on which system you have. Most homes we see in the Midtown and Pierpont neighborhoods run either CWS asphalt shingle systems or CWS tile systems, with a smaller number of metal panels closer to the hills. The shingle systems use standard 3-tab or architectural profiles, and the fastening pattern matters more than the shingle brand itself. Tile systems, by contrast, are far less forgiving: CWS tile roofs use interlocking profiles with specific underlayment requirements, and substituting a generic tile from a supply yard often leaves a visible color mismatch and a weak lock at the seam.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into constantly: the underlayment on CWS tile roofs fails before the tile does. Ventura’s coastal air pushes moisture into the felt or synthetic layer beneath the tile, and by the time you see a leak inside, the tile itself may be perfectly fine. The repair is in the paper, not the ceramic. If your roof has a builder’s label or permit document, check for a CWS serial or series number near the eave; if not, we identify the system by pulling a single tile or shingle and measuring the exposure and profile. It takes about ten minutes on a ladder.
For OEM versus aftermarket: on CWS shingle roofs, architectural-profile aftermarket shingles from GAF or Owens Corning perform equivalently and carry their own manufacturer warranties, which we pass through with the paperwork. On CWS tile, we recommend staying OEM wherever the tile is still manufactured. The cost difference is small, and aftermarket tile almost never matches Ventura’s particular blend of sun-faded coastal tones.

Signs Your CWS Roofing Is Failing
- Water stain on a ceiling or upper wall corner. This is the most common first sign in Ventura, and it usually appears after a sustained rain rather than a quick drizzle. The water travels under the failed underlayment and pools at a seam before it becomes visible indoors.
- Missing or cracked tiles after wind. CWS tile roofs are built to handle coastal gusts, but a single cracked tile at the ridge or hip lets water into the underlayment below. We see this most often in the wind-exposed neighborhoods along the 101 corridor and up toward Montalvo.
- Granules collecting in gutters or downspouts. If your CWS shingle roof is ten to fifteen years old and you’re finding gritty granules at the base of your downspouts, the shingle surface is breaking down. That granule layer is the UV protection, and once it goes, the shingle core dries out and cracks fast in Ventura sun.
- Flashing lifting around vents, skylights, or chimneys. The flashings are the most common single-point failure on CWS roofs, because they sit at transitions that expand and contract with our temperature swings between foggy mornings and inland afternoon heat.
- Moss or dark streaking concentrated in one area. Coastal moisture plus the shade from mature eucalyptus or oak trees creates a microclimate on parts of a Ventura roof. Streaking by itself is cosmetic, but moss lifting shingle edges is structural and will shorten the life of the part beneath it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a CWS roof part replacement in Ventura, here’s what you can expect to pay:
- Single tile or small tile section replacement: $600 – $2,500, depending on tile availability and the condition of the underlayment beneath the failed area.
- Shingle section repair or flashing replacement: $400 – $1,800, including removal of the old material, new flashing or shingles, and sealed fasteners.
- Underlayment replacement over a section of tile roof: typically falls into the roof repair range, but if underlayment is gone across a large slope, the job edges toward a partial replacement conversation.
- Full CWS roof replacement: $8,000 – $20,000 for most Ventura homes, driven by roof area, slope access, tile versus shingle, and how much of the old underlayment has to come off.
Every price we give is written before the first board moves. That includes the material, the labor, the disposal of the old part, the drop cloths we lay, and the photo we take of the clean-up when we’re done. Nothing gets added after the fact unless we find hidden damage, and if we do, we show you a picture of it and get your sign-off before spending another dollar. The workmanship warranty travels with the project under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Roofing work, by its nature, puts you on a sloped surface above a fall hazard. We’ll be plain about it: we don’t recommend CWS roof repairs as a DIY project, even for homeowners who are handy around the house. The fastening pattern, the underlayment adhesive, and the sealant chemistry all have to be right, and the consequences of a missed step don’t show up until the next rain.
What you can safely do from the ground: photograph the area with a phone zoom, check your gutters for granules or tile debris, and note when the leak happens relative to rain. That information helps us figure out the failure before we even ladder up. What you should not do: crawl a tile roof to inspect it yourself. Tile is brittle under body weight, and a cracked tile you created is a new repair, not a diagnosis.

FAQs

A CWS tile roof in Ventura’s coastal climate typically lasts forty to sixty years on the tile itself, but the underlayment beneath it usually needs replacement at the twenty- to thirty-year mark. A CWS shingle roof in our sun and salt air typically lasts fifteen to twenty-five years before the granule loss becomes significant. Call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll assess what stage your roof is actually in, not what the brochure said.
Sometimes. A lifted flashing can be re-sealed, a single cracked tile can be swapped, and a small shingle patch can buy a few more years. The honest answer depends on what’s beneath the part: if the underlayment is intact, repair is realistic; if it’s saturated or crumbling, a patch is a bandage over a structural problem. We’ll show you the photo and let the evidence decide.
Most single-part CWS replacements, like a flashing or a small tile section, take a crew two to four hours on site and are done in a single visit. Underlayment replacement over a larger section can run one to two days, depending on weather and slope access.
We keep common flashing profiles, sealants, underlayment, and matched architectural shingles on our trucks and in our Ventura yard. CWS tile often has to be ordered to match the exact profile and color lot, which typically takes three to seven business days. When we write your price, we’ll tell you the parts timeline before you agree to anything.
