Mr-Glass Windows & Doors: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If you have a Mr-Glass window or door with a failed roller, lock, handle, or weather seal, we can match the part, give you a written price before any work starts, and complete the swap without leaving dust or debris behind. For window or door part replacement in Ventura, you’re typically looking at $180 to $650 installed depending on the part, and we keep the most common Mr-Glass hardware on our trucks. Most owners notice the problem first as a window that suddenly drags when opening, a door that won’t latch cleanly, or a draft that appears along the frame edge after a windy stretch off the ocean.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass produced several window and sliding door lines over the years, and the part you need depends on which series you have. The most common units we service in Ventura are the aluminum-frame horizontal sliders and single-hung windows built for coastal climates, along with the matching sliding patio doors. You’ll find a small etched label in the corner of the glass or along the frame channel, usually with a series code and a manufacturing date. If the label has worn off, measure the visible glass width and the frame channel depth, and we can identify the generation from those numbers.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Mr-Glass changed their roller wheel diameter partway through their production runs. The earlier sliders used a 1-1/4 inch roller assembly, while later units moved to a 1-1/2 inch concave wheel. They look nearly identical on a shelf but will not interchange. We pull the old roller and match it against both the wheel size and the housing depth before ordering anything. For locks and handles, the screw spacing is the other thing that varies. Some Mr-Glass doors use a 3-15/16 inch backset, which is close to the industry-standard 3-3/4 inch but not the same. Close is not close enough when a lock needs to throw into a strike plate.
For most Mr-Glass parts, we recommend OEM or OEM-equivalent hardware. Aftermarket rollers with nylon wheels are fine for interior doors, but on coastal Ventura units where salt air settles into tracks, the stainless steel ball bearing assemblies hold up noticeably longer. We also stock parts for a few other brands we work with regularly: KraftMaid cabinets, Cambria and Silestone countertops. If you have a mixed-material opening, that matters.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The window starts dragging or grinding when you slide it. That’s the roller wheel losing its bearing surface or collecting corrosion in the track. Left alone, the extra friction transfers to the track itself and you end up replacing both.
- The door or window won’t stay in its track. A roller housing that has worn out of round lets the sash tilt slightly, and then it catches on the frame lip. Each forced close bends the housing a little more.
- Condensation builds between the glass panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. The hardware is fine, but the unit needs replacing, and on Mr-Glass units from the older generation, the glazing bead can be brittle and cracks during removal if it isn’t warmed first.
- The lock throws but the door still rattles. The strike plate has shifted or the lock body screws have pulled loose from the aluminum frame. Tightening only works until the holes strip, and then the correct fix is a backer plate behind the frame face.
- You feel a draft along the frame edge when the window is closed. The wool pile weather seal has compressed and lost its shape. On beachside Ventura homes within a few blocks of the water, this seal wears out faster because salt particles accelerate the pile breakdown.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Mr-Glass window or door part replacement in Ventura, the installed cost typically falls between $180 and $650. A single roller assembly swap runs $180 to $320 including the part, the track cleaning, and the realignment. Replacing both rollers on a sliding patio door runs $350 to $550. A complete lock and handle replacement lands between $220 and $420 depending on the backset and the finish. If the insulated glass unit itself needs replacing, that is a different scope, usually $400 to $900 per unit depending on size and tint.
Every one of those numbers is written down before the work starts. You’ll see the part cost, the labor, and any disposal fee as separate line items. No estimate that grows after the crew arrives. No change orders unless you decide to add work while we’re there. The written price is the price.
The workmanship on a Mr-Glass part replacement is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the window still drags or the door doesn’t latch cleanly after we leave, we come back and make it right, without a second invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check yourself before calling. Look at the track and clean out any sand or grit with a vacuum nozzle, not a metal tool. Check whether the weep holes at the base of the frame are clear. Test whether the lock screws are loose and whether you can hand-tighten them without stripping anything. That’s about the limit of what I’d suggest on a window or door assembly without experience.
Where DIY goes wrong on Mr-Glass units is usually the roller swap. The sash has to come out of the frame, which on older units means releasing spring-loaded retainer clips while the glass is under its own weight. If the clip slips, the sash drops and the edge cracks on the track. We’ve replaced enough glass units after weekend attempts that I don’t sugarcoat it. This is one job where the part cost is smaller than the learning cost.
If you’d rather skip that learning curve, call us at (341) 218-4316. We’ll match the part, put the price in writing before the first screw comes out, and leave the floor as clean as we found it.
FAQs

Most Mr-Glass rollers and weather seals last 8 to 15 years in Ventura depending on how close the home sits to the coast, with beachside units within a few blocks of the water often needing roller or seal replacement at the 8 to 10 year mark because of salt air. If you need an exact assessment of your unit, call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll take a look.
Locks can sometimes be rebuilt with a new cylinder and hardware kit, but rollers are typically replaced rather than repaired because the bearing surfaces are sealed and the housing deforms once worn. We’ll give you our honest read either way, with the price on paper before we touch anything.
Most single-part replacements, like a roller assembly or a lock set, take 30 to 60 minutes once the correct part is in hand, and we can often complete the work the same visit if we have the part on the truck. Insulated glass unit replacements take longer because the new unit usually needs to be ordered.
We stock the most common Mr-Glass roller assemblies, lock sets, and weather seals on our trucks for the window and sliding door series we see most often in Ventura, and for less common parts we can usually have them within a few business days. Call (341) 218-4316 with your model details and we’ll check our inventory while you’re on the phone.
Put it in writing before the first board moves. That is how we handle every Mr-Glass part replacement, every estimate, and every scope of work we write in Ventura.
