ActiveYards Fence Installation: The Ventura Owner’s Guide

ActiveYards fence installation in Ventura typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full perimeter on an average city lot, depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re matching an existing ActiveYards section or starting fresh. We carry ActiveYards-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate hardware on the truck, so a failed section can often be matched and swapped in a single visit. Most Ventura homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a gate that drags after a Santa Ana wind event, a post that’s tilted from winter rain saturation, or a section of pickets that’s started to cup and pull away from the rail.

Elmstead Remodeling Ventura is an independent service provider and not affiliated with ActiveYards. What that means for you is we match the profile, the gauge, and the powder-coat finish to your existing fence instead of selling you whatever’s on the shelf. The written price comes before any work starts, and that’s the price you’ll pay.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards sells several fence series under different names depending on the retailer, but the profiles are consistent: the aluminum residential lines (typically labeled as “Ornamental” or “Residential Plus”), the steel estate panels, and the vinyl privacy series. The compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in Ventura is that the big-box version of an ActiveYards panel may have a slightly different rail-to-picket spacing than the dealer version of the same series, so measuring the actual picket-to-picket gap is more reliable than trusting the model name on the receipt.

When we match a section, we measure the picket width, the rail spacing, the post dimension, and the finish color against the existing run. The OEM versus aftermarket decision for ActiveYards parts really comes down to finish durability. The OEM powder coat on ActiveYards aluminum is a two-stage process that holds up well in Ventura’s coastal air, but for inland sections east of the 101, the sun load is another animal entirely. For sun-blasted south-facing runs, we’ll sometimes recommend a heavier powder coat from a domestic finisher that exceeds the original spec. We stock the OEM-compatible profiles and the upgraded finishes, and we’ll show you the difference before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your ActiveYards Fence Installation Is Failing

  • A post that’s leaning or twisting. In most Ventura yards this is a footing problem, not a post problem. The original concrete pour may have been shallow, or winter rain has washed soil out from under the base. A shifting post throws off gate alignment and eventually stresses the rail connections.
  • A gate that sags or scrapes. ActiveYards gates are built light for ease of use, which also means the hinge posts take more tilt load than a heavier gate would. When the hinge side pulls toward the latch, the gate drags. Sometimes it’s a hinge replacement, root-intervention or post re-set. Other times the whole gate frame is done.
  • Pickets that have started to cup, bow, or discolor. On vinyl runs near the water, salt air and UV work together. On inland runs, direct all-day sun is the culprit. Cupped pickets mean the bottom rail isn’t holding them square anymore, and the section loses its clean line.
  • Rails that have popped out of the post pockets. This is usually thermal expansion-and-contraction working against an original installation that had the rails cut too tight. The rail pulls free over time, leaving a visible gap at the post.
  • Crumbling or cracking concrete around the posts. Hairline cracks are normal in Ventura’s dry-wet cycles. Chunks falling out mean the footing has failed or was never deep enough. That post will move, and the section attached to it will follow.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

In Ventura, a targeted ActiveYards section replacement, one post and one rail with matching pickets, typically runs $400 – $900 installed. A full-gate replacement with new posts and hardware runs $1,200 – $2,800. A complete perimeter installation on a standard city lot falls in the $3,500 – $9,000 range, with the spread driven almost entirely by linear feet, number of gates, and whether we’re removing and hauling the old fence or matching new to existing.

  • Single section swap: $400 – $900
  • Gate and hardware replacement: $1,200 – $2,800
  • Post re-set with new concrete: $300 – $600 per post
  • Full perimeter installation: $3,500 – $9,000

Every quote lists parts and labor separately, so you can see what the ActiveYards-compatible components cost and what the crew earns. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed work. If something we installed is not right a year later, we make it right. That’s not a warranty card you’ll need to find in a drawer; it’s stamped on the written scope we hand you before the first hole is dug.

DIY or Call Us?

What an owner can safely check: whether a gate hinge has backed out, a picket has slipped its bottom rail, or a post cap is missing. Those are ten-minute fixes with a screwdriver and a mallet. What goes wrong with DIY on active fence sections starts when the digger hits a gas line, an irrigation main, or a root the size of a forearm. Ventura yards are full of all three. The other honest issue is matching the finish. A fence section that’s three years in the sun has faded. A factory-fresh panel next to it jumps out. Matching the patina, or ordering a finish that’s pre-aged to blend, takes a trained eye.

If the job is a picket here and a hinge there, do it. If the post is leaning, the gate is dragging, or the section needs to match an existing run, call us at (341) 218-4316. We will tell you honestly whether it’s a repair or a replacement, and the quote is free.
