Ameristar Fence Installation: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
Ameristar fence installation in Ventura typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full perimeter job, and we stock Ameristar-compatible posts, rails, and gate hardware on our trucks for faster swaps. Most Ventura homeowners discover a failed section the same way: a gate that drags after a Santa Ana wind event, a post that’s started to lean in the sandy soil near Pierpont, or a hinge that’s rusted through from salt air within 18 months of install. If you’re reading this, you probably already know which post or panel is the problem and you want it matched, priced, and handled without a runaround.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar’s residential ornamental steel line has gone through several series iterations over the years, and the compatibility gotcha in Ventura is this: the older Echelon and Montage series use a slightly narrower post profile than the current Elite and Cascade lines, so a post cap from one will not seat properly on the other. We’ve seen salvage parts from older neighborhoods around Midtown get mixed into newer fence runs, and the result is always a wobbly cap that holds water. The fastest way to identify what you have: check the inside face of the gate post for a stamped model code, and measure the post’s outside dimension. Echelon posts run 2″ square. Elite runs 2.5″. If the panel was installed before 2015, it’s almost certainly Echelon or Montage.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question for Ameristar specifically: Genuine Ameristar panels are e-coated and then powder-coated at the factory, which is why they survive the salt air around the Ventura Harbor better than budget box-store steel. We install genuine Ameristar components when the fence is under manufacturer warranty. For out-of-warranty repairs, we offer a quality aftermarket panel option that’s galvanized and powder-coated to the same RAL color code, typically at 20 – 30% below OEM cost. We’ll show you both numbers on the written estimate line by line, so you decide with the full picture.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing
- The gate drags or won’t latch after a wind event. In Ventura, the culprit is almost always a hinge that’s been torqued by repeated gusts off the Pacific. Once the hinge barrel wears oblong, the gate sags regardless of how many times you adjust the fork latch, and the fix is a hinge replacement, not another adjustment.
- A post leans but the panel still looks straight. This usually means the concrete footing has cracked below grade, often because it was poured too shallow for Ventura’s sandy, shifting soil. A post that’s moving at the base needs to be re-set, not just shimmed.
- Rust blooms at the weld points. The factory coating is thinnest at the welds. Near the ocean, we see breakout rust at the panel-to-rail joints within 2 – 3 years if the coating was ever scratched during install and never touched up.
- Runners and panel pickets rattle in the wind. Ameristar uses a notched-and-riveted construction (no through-welds), and when those rivets loosen over time, the panel starts to sing. It’s repairable at the individual picket level, but only if caught before the notch wallows out.
- The gate post cap is missing and water has pooled inside. That’s not cosmetic. A post filled with standing water will split at the seam within two winters. We include new caps with drip holes on every post we touch in Ventura.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Every Ameristar project we price in Ventura starts with a written quote, before any work begins.
| Scope | Typical Installed Range in Ventura |
|---|---|
| Full Ameristar perimeter fence (150 – 200 linear feet) | $5,500 – $9,000 |
| Partial replacement: 50 – 80 linear feet, existing posts reused | $2,000 – $4,200 |
| Gate replacement: two hang-and-latch hinges, new panel, new post hardware | $450 – $1,100 per gate |
| Single post re-set with new concrete footing | $250 – $500 per post |
What drives the spread on a full run: linear footage, whether we’re pulling the old concrete footings or digging new, gate count, and whether the soil at your property is the sand we find near the harbor or the clay that shows up further inland toward Saticoy. Every written quote we provide in Ventura includes parts, labor, haul-away of the old panels and posts, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
If you have a loose picket or a rattling panel, you can safely check two things before calling: whether the picket rivets have backed out (a temporary zip tie will quiet it until we get there), and whether the gate hinge bolts are simply loose at the post face (a socket wrench will snug those). What we don’t recommend touching yourself: any post that’s leaning, any gate that’s dragging, and any section where the concrete footing is cracked below the grass line. A wrong fix on a leaning post means the next wind event sends a steel panel toward your neighbor’s car, and footing work near a property line in Ventura sometimes triggers a survey if the line was never staked. We’ve corrected enough DIY footing attempts in the Pierpont basin to say this plainly: the concrete pour is the cheap part, the property line headache is not. FAQs

Genuine Ameristar panels installed with proper footings and intact coating will last 20 – 30 years in Ventura, but coastal properties within a mile of the ocean should expect hinge and post cap hardware to need attention every 6 – 10 years due to salt air. Interior properties further from the coast see the full lifespan. Give us a call at (341) 218-4316 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your fence can be repaired or needs replacement – free estimates on every visit.
Yes, if the post itself is still straight and the failure is at the concrete footing, we can break out the old footing, re-set the post in a deeper pour (24 to 30 inches, below the shifting topsoil), and re-hang the existing panel on the same post. If the post has started to bow or the seam has split from water intrusion, replacement is the stronger call.
Most single-post or single-panel Ameristar repairs in Ventura are finished in one visit, and for replacement posts, we schedule footings in the morning and leave the concrete curing with a temporary brace by early afternoon. The concrete reaches usable strength within 48 hours; we come back at no charge to pull the brace and do a final alignment check.
We stock common Ameristar-compatible posts, post caps, panel rivets, and gate hardware on our trucks, including the Echelon 2″ and Elite 2.5″ post sizes that get mixed up in older Ventura neighborhoods. For full panel replacements, we place the order the same day we finalize your written quote, so the wait for colored or custom-height panels is usually under three weeks.
