Barrette Driveway & Pavers: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If your Barrette driveway edging, paver border, or retaining block has cracked, shifted, or separated, we stock Barrette-compatible replacement parts at Elmstead Remodeling Ventura and can typically install them within a single visit. Most driveway and pavers part replacements in Ventura run between $250 and $700 for sealing or individual pieces, while full paver driveway installations range from $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage and prep work. The usual way owners discover the failure is subtle: a paver has sunk a half-inch, the edging has pulled away from the concrete, or water pools where it used to drain.
We’re an independent Ventura contractor, not affiliated with Barrette Outdoor Living. What that means for you is straightforward: we source Barrette parts from the same distributors used across California, and we match them to your existing layout by measurement, not guesswork.
Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette manufactures several paver and edging product lines, and the compatibility detail matters more than most homeowners expect. The key is identifying whether you have Barrette’s structural edging (typically steel or aluminum, powder-coated in black or brown) or their decorative paver border systems (concrete or poly). These are not interchangeable. A steel edge stake from one series will not fit the stake channel of another series, and using the wrong profile leaves the edge loose enough that the first hard rain in Ventura will shift it.
To identify your part, look for a stamped code on the underside of edging pieces or on the back face of border pavers. Barrette typically stamps a series letter followed by a dimension. Measure the stake channel width and the overall profile height before calling anyone. We’ll ask for these numbers when you call (341) 218-4316 because a quarter-inch difference determines which part fits. We carry the most common Barrette edging profiles and stake sizes on our service trucks, but for less common paver colors and textures, we order directly from the distributor and schedule install once the parts arrive, usually within a week in Ventura.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Barrette’s steel edging has a specific gauge and coating. Cheaper aftermarket equivalents rust faster in coastal air, and Ventura’s marine layer accelerates that timeline. We recommend OEM Barrette for anything within 10 miles of the coast. Inland, a quality aftermarket steel with a comparable gauge works fine.

Signs Your Barrette Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Edging has pulled away from the paver line. This usually means the stakes have loosened in the soil or the edging was installed without enough stakes on a curve. Once the edge moves, the pavers follow, and the gap widens with every car that rolls over the edge.
- Water pools against the house or garage. Barrette edging is often the drainage boundary for a paver driveway. When the edge drops, the slope changes, and water that used to sheet toward the street stays put. In Ventura’s rainy winters, that pooling works its way under the pavers and into the base.
- Pavers rock when you step on them. A rocking paver means the base sand has washed out below. The usual culprit is a gap in the edge restraint, which lets sand migrate out every time it rains. Replacing the edge piece fixes the cause, not just the symptom.
- Rust bleeding onto the concrete or pavers. This is a coating failure on steel edging. We see it most often on Barrette installations within a mile or two of the Ventura shoreline, where salt air works on exposed steel. Once rust starts, the structural integrity of the stake connection is compromised.
- Border pavers cracked at the corner. This is typically a load issue: a car tire consistently clips the corner paver on a turn. Barrette poly borders handle more flex than concrete ones, but repeated weight on the same point will eventually crack either. Replacing a single border paver is straightforward if we can match the color batch.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Barrette part replacements in Ventura, here are the installed ranges we quote:
- Individual edging piece replacement: $15 – $45 per piece installed, including stakes
- Full edging run replacement (up to 50 linear feet): $250 – $700 installed
- Border paver replacement (matching color): $8 – $25 per paver installed
- Paver driveway repair (re-leveling section, resetting edging): $400 – $1,800 depending on square footage
- Full paver driveway installation with Barrette edging: $7,000 – $18,000
- Driveway sealing after repair: $250 – $700
The range comes down to three things: how many pieces failed, whether the base sand needs replenishing, and how far we’re sourcing the matching part. Every quote you get from us is written down before work starts, parts and labor separated, so you know exactly what the Barrette pieces cost and exactly what the install costs. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if the replacement shifts or fails within a year, we make it right. Put it in writing before the first board moves.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a Barrette edge stake is something a homeowner with a rubber mallet can handle in an afternoon, and we’ll tell you that plainly. The stake taps into the channel, and if the soil isn’t compacted hard you won’t need more than patience. What goes wrong is when the base has already washed out underneath. If the pavers are rocking, the edge is just the visible symptom. Re-leveling a paver base means pulling up the affected area, adding sand, compacting, and resetting. Get that wrong and the same paver sinks again within a month. The same goes for rusted-through steel edging in Ventura: patching a rusted section without addressing the soil saturation under it just moves the problem a few feet down the line.
If you’re comfortable with a level and a tamper, we’re glad to sell you the parts and give you honest guidance. If you’d rather hand it to someone who does this daily, call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll get a truck out to look at your Barrette setup.
FAQs

In Ventura’s climate, Barrette steel edging typically lasts 10 – 15 years before the coating fails, and closer to 8 – 10 years within a mile of the coast where salt air works harder on the metal. Poly edging lasts longer, often 15 – 20 years, but can crack under repeated tire load. The base material underneath matters more than the product itself: a properly compacted base with good drainage extends the life of both pavers and edging by half a decade or more. Call (341) 218-4316 if you’d like us to assess what you have.
Yes, if the crack is hairline and the paver is still seated firmly in the base, a repair is often possible. We use a concrete bonding agent matched to the paver texture, and in most lighting the repair disappears. If the paver is cracked through the full depth or is rocking, replacement is the better call, because any repair on an unstable base will fail. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before we quote it.
Most individual edge or paver replacements take under two hours from the time we arrive. A full edging run replacement on a standard Ventura driveway runs a half day. If we need to re-level a section of base, plan on a full day because the sand needs to be compacted in lifts before the pavers go back down. We’ll give you the written timeline before work starts.
We stock the most common Barrette edging profiles, stakes, and border paver colors on our trucks. For less common pieces, we order from the distributor and schedule your install once the parts arrive, usually within five to seven business days in Ventura. You never have to source parts yourself unless you want to. We also work with parts for KraftMaid cabinets, Cambria countertops, and Silestone surfaces if your project extends beyond the driveway.
