Barrette Fence Installation: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
Barrette fence installation in Ventura typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full vinyl fence project including materials, labor, and haul-away of the old fence. Most Barrette vinyl fence sections and posts are in stock locally or arrive within a few days, and we can usually complete a standard backyard fence installation within one to two working days. You’ll know your current fence is failing when panels start leaning, a post cracks at the base, or a gate won’t latch because the whole section has shifted out of square.
We’re Elmstead Remodeling Ventura, an independent installer not affiliated with Barrette. We stock Barrette-compatible vinyl fence parts and install them the same way we’d handle any project for a Ventura family: written price before any work starts, drop cloths where the crew walks through the yard, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave.
Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette vinyl fencing comes in a few distinct product lines, and the parts are not always interchangeable between them. The most common series we install in Ventura backyards are the Barrette Outdoor Living vinyl privacy fence panels (usually sold in 6-foot and 8-foot widths, with tongue-and-groove pickets) and the Barrette semi-privacy and picket fence lines. Some models route pickets into a top and bottom rail; others use a notched-post system where rails sit inside routed pockets in the posts themselves.
The compatibility gotcha we see most often: fence posts come in different wall thicknesses, and a rail that fits a standard residential post won’t always seat correctly in a heavier commercial-grade post. Before ordering any replacement part, check the end of a rail or the inside face of a post for an embossed part number or series name. If the numbers have faded from Ventura sun exposure (which happens faster than you’d think, especially on south-facing fence lines), measure the rail profile and post dimensions and we’ll match it from there. For most Ventura homes, a quality aftermarket vinyl part from a brand carried by our local suppliers will match Barrette’s profile and color closely enough that you won’t see the difference; for gate hardware, we typically recommend staying with Barrette OEM hinges and latches because the mounting hole spacing is specific.

Signs Your Barrette Fence Installation Is Failing
- Posts leaning at the base. This usually means the concrete footing has cracked or was never deep enough for Ventura’s soil conditions. We dig new footings to 24 inches minimum and use a fast-setting concrete mix that holds up to our wet winters.
- Rails sagging or pulling out of posts. Vinyl expands and contracts with temperature swings, and Ventura’s coastal air plus afternoon heat can loosen routed rail connections over time. The fix is usually new rail brackets or re-seating rails with proper fasteners, not a whole new fence.
- Pickets cracked or turned brittle. Vinyl degrades faster with direct UV exposure, and a south-facing Ventura fence line can show brittleness in as little as 8 to 10 years. Replacing individual pickets is a fast job we do regularly.
- Gate dragging or not latching. The post holding the hinge side has usually shifted. A sagging gate is often a post problem, not a hinge problem, and it’s worth checking the post plumb before replacing hardware.
- White chalky residue on the surface. That’s oxidation, normal for vinyl after years in the sun. It doesn’t mean the fence is failing structurally, but if the material has also become brittle, sections are past their useful life.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Barrette-style vinyl fence installation in Ventura runs $3,500 to $9,000. The spread comes down to linear footage, fence height (6-foot is standard; 8-foot adds material and sometimes permits), gate count, and whether we’re pulling old posts with concrete or starting from a clean line. A simpler job like replacing a single fence section with two posts and one gate panel lands at the lower end. A full backyard perimeter with multiple gates and an old fence to demo lands at the top.
Every quote includes the parts, concrete for footings, hardware, labor, haul-away of the old fence, and our written price before any work begins. The number on that paper is the number you pay. Graham Stein writes every scope onto paper before a single drop cloth goes down: materials, sequencing, the quiet hours we’ll work around, and the final number. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed fence, so if a post shifts or a gate binds within a year, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a single vinyl picket is a reasonable weekend job for a Ventura homeowner with basic tools. You slide the old picket out, slide the new one in, and you’re done in twenty minutes. Replacing a post is where DIY goes sideways: the old concrete footing has to come out cleanly, the new hole needs to be deep enough for our soil, and the post has to be set plumb in two directions while the concrete cures. If the post is off even half an inch, the gate won’t latch and the rails won’t seat.
There’s no high-tension danger with vinyl fence work the way there is with a garage door spring, but a 6-foot fence section is still heavy and awkward, and an 8-foot section can catch the Ventura wind and take a person off balance. We have the crew and the right equipment to set posts straight the first time. Call (341) 218-4316 if you’d rather have it done once, done right, with a written price up front.
FAQs

A vinyl fence in Ventura lasts 20 to 30 years, with the biggest variable being sun exposure. South-facing sections can turn brittle faster than shaded sections. Call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll inspect what you have before recommending replacement.
Yes, most damage can be repaired. Broken pickets, sagging rails, and shifted posts all have targeted fixes that cost less than a full replacement, as long as the remaining material isn’t brittle. Call (341) 218-4316 for an honest assessment.
A standard backyard fence installation takes one to two working days, depending on linear footage and gate count. We schedule around your family’s routine and use quiet tools during rest hours where possible.
We stock common Barrette-compatible vinyl pickets, rails, and gate hardware on the truck, and we order less common sizes and colors for quick delivery in Ventura. If you have a failing part, call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll tell you if we have it on hand.
