CGI Kitchen Remodeling: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If you have a CGI kitchen and a cabinet hinge, drawer slide, or door panel that’s starting to fail, we can source and install the right replacement for your specific model. A CGI kitchen repair or targeted replacement in Ventura typically runs $400 – $2,500 depending on whether we’re swapping one drawer glide or rebuilding a section of cabinetry, while a full CGI kitchen remodel lands between $14,000 – $45,000. Here’s the honest pattern we see: homeowners usually notice the problem the third or fourth time a drawer catches, or when a hinge starts sagging so the door no longer lines up square with its neighbor. By then, the original part has been wearing down for months, and the fix is rarely just tightening a screw.
We’re Elmstead Remodeling Ventura, an independent remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with CGI, but we work with their cabinet lines regularly and know how their hardware and box construction behave after years of daily use in kitchens from Midtown to the Ventura Keys.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI manufactures cabinet lines under several series names, and the hardware compatibility varies more than most homeowners expect. The hinge bore pattern, drawer slide length, and door panel thickness are not universal across their catalog. A hinge from a CGI builder-grade line often won’t fit a cabinet from their semi-custom series without an adapter plate, and the mounting screws land in different positions even when the hinge looks identical at a glance.
Before you order anything, check two things. First, look inside the cabinet door for a printed label or stamped code on the hinge cup itself. That code tells us the series and the bore pattern, which is what we need to match the exact part. Second, measure the overlay: the distance the door covers the cabinet frame when closed. CGI uses both full-overlay and half-overlay hinges across different lines, and a half-overlay hinge on a full-overlay door will never sit right no matter how many times you adjust it.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, our position is concrete: for hinges and drawer slides, we stock and install Blum and Salice equivalents that match or exceed the original CGI hardware. For door panels and drawer fronts, OEM is the safer path because the finish and grain matching matter too much to gamble on a near-match. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the surrounding remodel work, which matters when a CGI fix turns into a larger refresh.

Signs Your CGI Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- A drawer starts catching at the same spot every time. This usually means one drawer slide has a worn ball bearing or a bent rail. The slide is still working, but it’s wearing the drawer box unevenly and will eventually tear out the mounting screws.
- A cabinet door sags and scrapes the door below it. The hinge has loosened at the cup or the hinge arm has fatigued. A sagging door puts constant pressure on the hinge screws, and in CGI boxes with particleboard sides, those screws will wallow out and strip if left alone.
- Door or drawer fronts show cracks near the hardware mounting points. This is the classic CGI failure point in Ventura’s dry summers: the wood or MDF shrinks, the hinge screws lose their bite, and the movement concentrates stress right at the screw hole until the material gives way.
- Soft-close stops working on one door but not the others. The dampening mechanism inside the hinge has failed, which is common after years of children leaning on open doors. It’s a hinge replacement, not a cabinet replacement.
- Finish is peeling or bubbling along the bottom edge of lower cabinets. This is moisture exposure, often from a slow dishwasher leak or repeated spills in a busy kitchen. The box may be fine, but you want it checked before the substrate swells and the cabinet loses structural integrity.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Ventura, a single CGI hinge replacement runs $400 – $800 installed, a drawer slide swap runs $500 – $1,200, and a full door or drawer front replacement with finish matching runs $1,000 – $2,500. If the cabinet boxes themselves are sound and you’re replacing hardware throughout the kitchen, budget $2,000 – $5,000 for a complete hinge-and-slide refresh on a standard 10 – 15 cabinet layout.
What drives the range mostly comes down to whether we’re replacing one part or doing a whole-kitchen hardware refresh, and whether the replacement needs finish matching versus a mechanical swap. A written price before any work starts is how we operate, every time. That price includes the parts, the labor, the clean-up, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check for loose screws, clean the slide rails with a dry cloth, and photograph the hinge codes for us before you call. What goes wrong with DIY is usually the finish: forcing a hinge into a bore pattern it wasn’t made for splits the door, and using the wrong screw length blows out the cabinet face. We’ve repaired enough blow-outs in Ventura homes to know the repair costs more than the hinge ever did.
If you want it matched, installed, and done right the first time, call us at (341) 218-4316. We’ll identify the exact part from your photos or a quick site visit and put the price in writing before the first hinge comes off.
FAQs

In a typical Ventura kitchen with daily use, CGI hinges and drawer slides last 8 – 15 years before they start sagging, catching, or losing soft-close function. The dry coastal air is actually kind to hardware, but the daily opening and closing cycles are what wear them out. Call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll assess your specific hardware before you commit to replacing anything.
Hinges and slides can’t be rebuilt, but loose mounting screws can often be reset with a larger-diameter screw or a threaded insert if the surrounding wood is still sound. If the screw hole is wallowed out or the hinge arm is visibly bent, replacement is the honest fix. We’ll tell you which path applies to your cabinets after looking at them.
A single hinge or slide replacement takes an hour or less on site. A full kitchen hardware refresh on 10 – 15 cabinets takes one day, including adjusting every door and drawer so the reveals are even and the soft-close functions cleanly. We’ll give you the timeline in writing before work starts.
We stock common CGI-compatible hinges and drawer slides from Blum and Salice on the truck, but we can’t guarantee a stock match for every series and overlay without seeing the cabinet first. Send us a photo of the hinge code and we’ll tell you before we schedule the visit exactly what we’re bringing.
If your CGI kitchen needs a part matched, a hinge swapped, or a full remodel planned, call Elmstead Remodeling Ventura at (341) 218-4316. We’ll put it in writing before the first board moves, and leave your kitchen cleaner than we found it.
