ECO Window Systems Home Additions & ADU: The Ventura Owner’s Guide

If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Ventura with ECO Window Systems windows, the installed cost typically lands between $45,000 and $130,000 depending on square footage, foundation work, and finish level. We stock and install ECO Window Systems-compatible windows and can match your existing units exactly, so the new space looks like it was always part of the house. Most Ventura homeowners discover they need this page after a window in the addition fails, a frame shows signs of moisture intrusion, or the planning department flags window specs during the ADU permit review.

We’re an independent Ventura remodeling contractor, not a division of ECO Window Systems. That independence means we can give you an honest read on which ECO parts are worth keeping and which ones make more sense to swap for a quality equivalent. We give that read with a written price before any work starts, every time.

Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To

A second-story addition that matches the existing roofline

ECO Window Systems produces vinyl and aluminum window lines sold through regional building supply houses, and the Ventura market sees a steady stream of them in 1990s and early 2000s tract homes as well as newer ADU builds. The compatibility gotcha we run into most often: the frame depth on ECO casement windows varies by production year, and a sash balance or latch from one run will not seat correctly in another. If you can find the white label on the inside of the frame, note the four-digit production code before calling. We read those codes on-site so you don’t have to translate them yourself.

OEM parts from ECO Window Systems are still available for most series, but lead times in Ventura run two to six weeks depending on the warehouse stocking the line. Quality aftermarket equivalents, especially balances, weather stripping, and cam locks, are often on our truck the same day and meet the same dimensional specs. For glass units, we always recommend matching the original ECO double-pane spec, because Ventura coastal air has a way of exposing any mismatch in Low-E or argon fill within a season or two.

Signs Your ECO Window Systems Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • The window in the addition won’t stay open. The ECO sash balance has lost tension, usually after five to seven years of salt air and Ventura wind working on the coil. The window isn’t dangerous, but it is a daily annoyance that gets worse as the weather warms.
  • You feel air moving around the frame even when the sash is locked. The weather stripping has compressed or cracked, and on ECO units from certain runs, the foam was never thick enough for coastal exposure. This is the most common energy loss in Ventura additions.
  • Condensation fogs the space between the panes. The seal on the ECO double-pane unit has failed. That fog is permanent once it appears, and it means the insulating gas is gone, so the window is now performing like a single pane.
  • The crank operator on a casement window grinds or slips. ECO crank operators have a gear set that strips over time, especially on windows facing the afternoon sun. A stripped operator means you cannot open the window, which matters a great deal in a small Ventura ADU that relies on cross-breeze to stay cool.
  • You can see daylight through the corner joints. This points to frame sag or an installation issue on the original addition, not just a hardware swap. We see it most often in older ADUs built on pier foundations that have settled unevenly.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A finished backyard cottage with a small covered porch

For the parts-and-labor work on ECO windows within a larger addition or ADU project, budget $4,500 to $15,000 for a full window replacement scope, depending on how many units and whether framing repair is involved. A single sash balance or weather stripping replacement is far less, typically in the low hundreds. On a complete home addition in Ventura, $45,000 to $130,000 covers everything from foundation through finish, including ECO-compatible or specified windows, named-brand materials, and a written price before any work starts.

Every quote from us includes the parts, the labor, the clean-up, and the proof of clean-up. Drop cloths go down before a window comes out. Shoe covers at the door. A photo of the finished clean-up gets taken before the crew leaves. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work: if it is not done right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a window sash balance is a tempting weekend job, and on some ECO models it is doable with a flathead screwdriver and patience. What we would not recommend you touch: any window where the frame shows rot or sag, any double-pane unit that needs glass replacement, or any casement operator that requires the sash to come fully out of the frame. Glass units are heavy, tempered ECO glass shatters into small sharp pieces when it goes wrong, and a dropped sash can take a finger or a paw with it. We have made this repair hundreds of times in Ventura homes, and we would rather talk you out of a dangerous shortcut than charge you for a rescue.

If you are unsure, call (341) 218-4316 and describe what you are seeing. Graham will tell you straight whether it is a phone call fix or a crew visit.
