PGT Kitchen Remodeling: The Ventura Owner’s Guide

PGT kitchen remodeling in Ventura typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 for a full kitchen, with cabinet-focused work starting around $4,000 and countertop replacement between $2,000 – $6,500. We stock and install PGT-compatible cabinet hardware, hinges, drawer slides, and trim kits, and most hardware swaps happen in a single visit. The way most Ventura homeowners discover a failed PGT part is not dramatic. A drawer stops gliding. A hinge starts sagging under the weight of a heavy pull-out. A soft-close mechanism gives up and slams at 6 a.m. while the kids are still asleep. By the time someone calls us, they have usually been living with the annoyance for weeks because they did not know whether the part could be matched or whether the whole cabinet needed replacing. It can almost always be matched. That is what we do.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT built cabinet lines for a range of kitchen layouts across Ventura homes, from tract housing in East Ventura to custom builds near Ondulando. The parts that wear out first are typically not the cabinet boxes themselves. They are the mechanical pieces: concealed hinges, full-extension drawer slides, soft-close dampers, rollout tray hardware, and corner carousel mechanisms.

The quickest way to identify what you need is to pull the drawer out and look for a manufacturer stamp on the metal side rail. Most PGT drawer slides carried a stamp on the inner rail with a series code. Hinges are trickier. Look for an imprint on the cup or the arm. If the stamp is worn, measure the cup diameter, the overlay, and the hinge opening angle and we can match it from that. One compatibility gotcha we see regularly: PGT used at least two different slide profiles across their cabinet generations, and a slide from one line will not mount cleanly on the other, even when both look identical at a glance. Depth matters too. A 21-inch slide will not retrofit into a cabinet drilled for an 18-inch slide without new rear brackets.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, our honest position is this: for hinges and drawer slides, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a manufacturer like Blum or Grass often outlasts the original PGT part and carries its own warranty. We stock both. For things like matched door fronts, trim moldings, or the specific profile of a PGT raised-panel drawer face, aftermarket can look close but not exact, and in a kitchen where the cabinets face the dining area, close is not good enough. In those cases we recommend keeping the existing face and replacing only the hardware behind it, or working with our countertop and cabinet partners like KraftMaid and Cambria to build a matching replacement section.

Elmstead Remodeling Ventura is an independent remodeling contractor and is not affiliated with PGT. We work on PGT products because so many Ventura kitchens have them, and because the parts are serviceable when you know what you are looking at.

Signs Your PGT Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • A drawer sticks at the midpoint or binds before opening fully. This usually means the slide’s nylon roller or bearing has worn flat on one side from years of weighted use. The drawer still functions, but the metal is wearing against metal and the rail will eventually gall.
  • The soft-close mechanism no longer catches. PGT soft-close dampers are small piston assemblies mounted on the hinge or slide. When the internal seal dries out or cracks, the damping action dies and the door or drawer closes hard. This is the most common PGT part failure we replace in Ventura kitchens.
  • A cabinet door drops out of alignment and will not stay adjusted. The hinge cup has likely worn at the mounting screws or the arm spring has lost tension. Overtightening the adjustment screws usually makes the problem worse by stripping the mounting plate.
  • You hear a metallic pop or click when a door opens. That is the hinge arm detaching from the spring mechanism. The door will still hang, but the hinge is no longer holding alignment and will eventually pull the mounting screws out of the cabinet frame.
  • A corner carousel or pull-out shelf wobbles on its pole. The nylon bushings inside the rotating hub wear down over years of use, especially with the salt air we get in coastal Ventura neighborhoods near the pier. Once the bushing wears, the whole assembly leans and the shelf scrapes the cabinet floor.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Before we touch a cabinet, we write the price down. That is a Cedarwell Care Promise rule, and it applies to a $40 hinge swap the same way it applies to a $45,000 kitchen. Here are the ranges you should expect in Ventura, installed, with parts and labor together:

  • Full kitchen remodel: $14,000 – $45,000
  • Small kitchen remodel: $9,000 – $20,000
  • Cabinet installation: $4,000 – $13,000
  • Countertop installation: $2,000 – $6,500
  • Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000

For PGT hardware specifically, a typical hinge replacement runs $15 – $40 per hinge installed, and a drawer slide swap runs $25 – $60 per drawer depending on the slide profile and whether the cabinet needs new rear brackets. What moves a job from the low end to the high end is simple: how many doors and drawers are involved, whether the hardware is a discontinued PGT profile that requires shimming or drilling, and whether we are just swapping parts or correcting years of misalignment at the same time.

Every job gets a written price before work starts. That price includes the parts, the labor, the drop cloths, the shoe covers, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. It does not include change orders because we do not write change orders. We write the scope once, and we stand behind it.

DIY or Call Us?

Cabinet hardware is not a high-tension system like a garage spring, and changing a hinge or a drawer slide is not inherently dangerous. But there is a version of this that goes wrong on a Saturday afternoon. The homeowner removes a hinge, takes it to a big-box store, buys something that is almost the same, drills a new mounting hole because the pattern does not match, strips the old hole, and now the door hangs crooked and the cabinet face has an extra hole in it. That is the point where a $30 part becomes a $300 repair. If the hinge cup diameter and overlay do not match, or the slide is a different profile than the stamp says, do not force it. That is the moment to stop and call us. You can also do the useful part: pull the drawer, photograph the stamp, measure the cup and overlay, and send it to us before we come out. That saves a trip. Call (341) 218-4316 and we will match it from the photos.
