Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If you’re looking for Therma-Tru driveway and paver parts in Ventura, the honest answer is this: Therma-Tru makes doors, not driveways. The brand has never manufactured a paver, a driveway stone, or a masonry edging product. What Ventura homeowners usually mean when they call us about this is one of two things: they need a paver driveway or walkway installed at a home that also has Therma-Tru entry doors, or they’ve been searching for a specific door threshold or sill that bridges the gap from their Therma-Tru door out onto a paver surface. We stock door thresholds and weather seals in Ventura, and for the pavers themselves we work with manufacturers like Belgard and Basalite. A paver driveway for a standard Ventura two-car home typically runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed, and the parts for a Therma-Tru door threshold that meets that paver line usually cost $40 to $180 before labor.
Most people find this page because the edge of their driveway is breaking down where it meets the garage, or because a Therma-Tru door is dragging across pavers that have shifted with Ventura’s wet winters and dry summers. We’ll sort out which half of that problem you actually have by the end of this page.
Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

On the door side, every Therma-Tru entry door we’ve installed in Ventura has one thing in common with every other one: the adjustable threshold or the fixed sill carries a model-specific profile. Therma-Tru uses three main threshold families: the Adjustable Composite Threshold on Classic-Craft and Fiber-Classic lines, the Solid Oak Sill on older Traditional series doors, and the newer high-performance adjustable sills on Pulse and Benchmark series doors. The part number is stamped on the underside of the threshold cap and on the top edge of the sill, but after a few Ventura summers the ink fades and you’re measuring by eye. We measure the width of the door slab, the height of the rough opening lip, and the drop from the interior floor to the exterior finish grade. Those three numbers tell us more than any label.
If it’s the paver side of this equation, the real compatibility questions are about the base, not the paver brand. Ventura sits on a mix of sandy loam and clay depending on whether you’re in Midtown, near the Fairgrounds, or out toward the Saticoy area. Clay soils shrink in our dry season and swell when it rains. A paver driveway that looked level the day it was installed can be off by three-quarters of an inch after two full seasons. That’s not a product defect; that’s the ground underneath doing what Ventura ground does. We quote paver work with the base depth called out in writing: a minimum of 4 inches of compacted Class II road base for foot traffic, 6 inches for driveways, plus 1 inch of bedding sand. If a bid doesn’t include those numbers, you can’t compare it to anything.
Elmstead Remodeling Ventura is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Therma-Tru, Belgard, or Basalite. We install their products because our crews can stand behind the way they perform here, not because anyone pays us to say so.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Water pooling at the door sill after light rain. This usually means the threshold’s weep-cap channels are blocked with fine Ventura dust, or the sill was never shimmed level. The water sits against the bottom rail of the door and quietly rots the frame from the hinge side inward.
- A visible gap between the bottom of the door and the top of the threshold. Weatherstripping compresses over time, especially on west-facing doors that take direct afternoon sun near the Avenue, but a gap bigger than an eighth of an inch means the threshold adjuster slots are stripped or the sill has actually flexed.
- Pavers rocking underfoot at the edge of the driveway. One or two loose stones at the edge is normal settling. A line of them along the door-side edge means the edge restraint wasn’t installed correctly, and the whole paver field is slowly walking outward.
- Concrete or sand washing out from between pavers after every rain. Polymeric sand breaks down over about five to seven years in direct sun. When it starts washing into your planting beds after an El Niño winter, the pavers lose lateral locking and you’ll see spreading within eighteen months.
- The door drags across pavers that used to clear it. This is the one Graham Stein sees most often during Ventura walks. The door didn’t drop; the pavers rose. Tree roots from liquidambars and ficus planted along the curb in older Midtown and College Park neighborhoods push the paver bed up slowly, and the threshold takes the damage first.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Therma-Tru threshold replacement in Ventura, the threshold itself runs $40 to $180 depending on the profile and your door width, and labor runs one to two hours on a standard 36-inch door. Most owners pay between $250 and $550 total when we can reuse the existing sill and just swap the adjustable cap plus the weatherstripping. If the wood sill underneath has rot, which we find on about a third of older homes near the beach side of town, the job becomes a partial frame repair and that’s $500 to $1,200. We write the number down before we start, and you see it in the same written scope as the parts.
For the paver side, a full paver driveway replacement in Ventura runs $7,000 to $18,000. The spread is driven by square footage, whether we’re pulling out concrete that’s already there, the base depth the soil requires, and the paver line you choose. A paver patio of 300 to 400 square feet runs $3,500 to $11,000. Every paver quote includes the base material depths, the edge restraint, the bedding sand, the polymer sand for the joints, and the haul-away. We cover our hardscape work under the same 365-Day Done Right Promise as every other Elmstead project. If the pavers shift, sink, or spread after the work is done, we make it right. That promise is in writing along with the price.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things on your own: look under the door for daylight, run a hose across the threshold and watch where water goes, and mark any loose pavers with a piece of tape so you remember where they are. What we’d rather you not do is pull a Therma-Tru threshold off a door you still need to lock at night. The threshold is structural. It carries the weight of the door slab, it holds the weatherstripping in place, and when you unbolt it you release whatever water damage has been hiding underneath. Half the door frames we repair started as a homeowner with a screwdriver and a plan.
For pavers, one or two loose stones can be reset by an owner with a rubber mallet and a bag of bedding sand from a Ventura hardware store. But if the edge restraint is gone or the base is soft, adding sand on top just delays the real fix and makes the eventual repair more expensive. Call us at (341) 218-4316 and we’ll tell you honestly which side of that line you’re on. The estimate costs you nothing.
FAQs

A Therma-Tru composite threshold installed correctly in Ventura should last 10 to 15 years before the weatherstripping needs replacement, and the threshold cap itself often lasts the life of the door. The failure we see most often isn’t the threshold wearing out; it’s the wooden sill underneath it wicking up moisture from pavers that drain toward the house. If your door has east or north exposure and proper shims, you could get 20 years out of the assembly. West-facing doors near the beach take more sun and salt, and we plan for the seal to need replacement sooner on those. Call (341) 218-4316 and we’ll tell you whether your threshold can be serviced or needs a full swap.
Yes, in many cases. If the adjustable cap simply settled, we can often re-shim the sill, replace the weatherstripping, and reset the cap for about an hour of labor plus parts. If the sill wood has started to rot, the repair becomes a partial frame replacement. We only call for a full threshold replacement when the adjuster channels are cracked or the sill itself is soft. Most repairs cost less than replacement, and we’ll write that on the estimate either way.
A full paver driveway replacement on a standard two-car home takes us three to five working days from removal to final compaction. That includes stripping the old surface, grading, compacting the base, laying the pavers, polymer sanding, and a final walkthrough. Weather matters here: heavy rain stops paver work until the subgrade drains, so a winter project in Ventura can stretch by a few days through no one’s fault. Patios and smaller paver projects are often done in two to three days.
We keep the most common Therma-Tru threshold profiles and weatherstripping on our trucks because we never know which one a door will need until we pull the old part. For pavers, we source Belgard and Basalite product through local Ventura County yards, which means most paver lines are available within a week. We don’t cut corners on wait times. If we don’t have a part, we tell you so when we schedule the work, not after we’ve taken your door off.
