Unilock Bathroom Remodeling: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
If you have Unilock pavers or retaining-wall block in or around a Ventura bathroom and something has failed, we can replace or rebuild it, and the work typically runs between $9,000 and $28,000 installed depending on square footage, access, and what the substrate looks like once we open it up. Most owners discover the problem the way you just did: a shower pan or floor section has settled, a paver has cracked or shifted, or water is finding its way behind the block and showing up as a stain or a musty smell on the other side of the wall. The good news is Unilock’s product lines are well documented, and if we can identify the specific block or paver series you have, we can usually source a match without guessing. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, per our standard practice, so you’ll know the number before a single block is pulled.
Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Unilock makes a wide range of concrete pavers, permeable pavers, and segmental retaining-wall block, and the series you have dictates what we can and cannot match. In bathrooms we most often see Unilock’s smooth-faced pavers used for shower floors and accent walls: the Series line (often sold as Series 3000 or Series 6000 depending on thickness), the Brussels Block line with its tumbled, old-world edges, and occasionally the Richcliff or Town Hall pavers where the owner wanted a more finished, formal look. The compatibility gotcha is thickness: Unilock bath and wet-area applications should be built on pavers at least 60 mm thick, and if an earlier contractor set 40 mm pavers in a shower pan, they fail sooner, particularly at the edges. You can identify your series by measuring the paver face and thickness, then cross-referencing the color name stamped on the original invoice or the packaging. If you don’t have either, bring a clean sample into our Ventura shop and we will match it visually against Unilock’s current color charts, because stone blends shift subtly between production runs and close-enough is not acceptable in a visible shower floor.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for a visible finished surface, we almost always recommend genuine Unilock product. Color and texture matching on aftermarket equivalents is unreliable across production years, and in a wet area any tonal mismatch reads as a repair forever. For concealed work, a quality aftermarket paver with the same ASTM C936 rating and thickness can be a sensible way to control cost, and we will tell you plainly when that is the case and when it is not.

Signs Your Unilock Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Settling or rocking pavers underfoot. This usually means the bedding layer beneath the pavers has washed out or compacted unevenly. In a bathroom, water is almost always the culprit: a slow drain leak or a failed weep hole lets water carry the fine bedding sand away, and the pavers lose support.
- Efflorescence that keeps coming back. A white, chalky film on the paver surface is mineral salts being drawn out by moisture. If you clean it off and it returns within weeks, there’s water getting behind the block from somewhere it should not be.
- Dark, persistent staining at the base of a paver accent wall. In Ventura’s climate, this is often capillary moisture from the slab or a poorly flashed wall intersection, and it indicates water is being absorbed and held rather than shed.
- Cracking along a grout line or at a floor edge. Concrete pavers don’t flex; if one cracks, either the substrate moved or the paver was loaded in a way it was never designed for, like a point load on an unsupported edge.
- A musty smell you cannot place. Water has found an organic surface behind or beneath the pavers, and it is staying wet. By the time you smell it, the moisture has been present long enough to matter.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Unilock work inside a Ventura bathroom, most jobs fall between $9,000 and $28,000, with the spread driven by three things: how many square feet of paver surface we’re rebuilding, whether we’re also correcting the drainage or waterproofing underneath, and how much demolition and prep the existing layout requires. A shower floor replacement at the lower end of that range assumes we can pull the failed pavers, re-bed, and reset without disturbing surrounding tile. A full bathroom remodel that includes Unilock pavers, new waterproofing, a curb rebuild, and fixture work pulls toward the upper end. We write every line item down before starting: materials, labor, disposal, waterproofing, and the final number, so there are no surprises and no change orders unless you ask for a scope change. Every Unilock bathroom job we complete is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right, we make it right. We are an independent Ventura contractor and are not affiliated with Unilock, so that promise comes from us, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the detective work: measure your pavers, photograph the failure from multiple angles, check whether the drain is weeping or holding water, and note any staining patterns. What you should not do is pull pavers out of a functioning shower pan or waterproofed floor to see what is underneath, because the waterproofing layer is what protects the structure of your home, and once it is breached, you have turned a cosmetic reset into a water-damage project. The same goes for block walls that may be load-bearing or retaining: taking out the wrong course because it looks loose can destabilize the wall above it. If the problem is visual, we can usually get you an exact quote from photos and measurements without a site visit. If it involves water or structure, we will come out, look, and write it down. Put it in writing before the first board moves, and that applies even when there are no boards, just block. Call (341) 218-4316 when you are ready for us to look.
FAQs

A properly bedded and waterproofed Unilock paver floor should last 25 to 30 years in a Ventura bathroom, though the bonding and waterproofing layers beneath it typically need attention every 8 to 12 years. The pavers themselves rarely fail; the system around them does. Call (341) 218-4316 and we can tell you what we see.
Often yes, if the failure is confined to a few pavers and the waterproofing below is intact. We can match the series and color, reset the affected area, and re-sand the joints. If water has reached the substrate, a patch repair will buy you months, not years, and we will tell you that before you spend anything.
Most shower floor or bathroom floor resets take 3 to 5 working days, including cure time for the waterproofing before pavers are reset. A full bathroom remodel with paver work runs 2 to 4 weeks. We’ll write the schedule down along with the price before the first day of work.
We keep common Unilock line samples and color charts in our Ventura shop, and we order the exact series and color for your job once we have confirmed the match. That prevents us from installing product that has aged or faded differently on our shelf versus yours. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the other parts of a bathroom remodel.
